Our commitment
Unamine is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all of its business relationships, and to preventing slavery, forced and compulsory labour, child labour, and human trafficking in its operations and investments.
Our business
Unamine SARL is a closed alternative asset manager specialising in mining and metals in Africa, with a platform centred on the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe. It invests in and partners with operating companies and works with institutional investors and joint-venture partners.
Risk areas
We recognise that mining and mineral supply chains carry heightened risk. Areas we pay particular attention to include:
- Child labour and unsafe working conditions in artisanal and small-scale mining.
- Forced or bonded labour, and unlawful recruitment practices.
- Traceability of minerals through processing, trading, and export.
- Operators and contractors with limited oversight or weak labour controls.
Due diligence
Before committing capital, the firm's in-house team assesses counterparties and assets, including legal, community, and compliance considerations, with independent verification where warranted. Mandates are structured with governance rights and reporting that allow the firm to monitor operating standards, and traceable offtake arrangements are designed to meet the provenance requirements of downstream buyers.
Policies and standards
We expect counterparties to comply with applicable labour and human rights laws and to cooperate with reasonable requests for information. Where concerns are identified, we seek to remedy them with the counterparty and, if they cannot be resolved, will reconsider the relationship.
Raising concerns
Concerns about modern slavery can be reported confidentially to whistle@unamine.com. See our Whistleblowing page for how reports are handled.
